Lucid Dreaming FAQ

What is lucid dreaming?

Dreaming and knowing it, therefore, getting control over the dream.

Possible?

Sure thing. Personally tried, scientifically proven.

Why to lucid dream?

Several possible reasons. Like for fun, for personal development, etc.

When to lucid dream?

Anytime you sleep and dream. The timetable is quite flexible.

Where do I start?

That's kinda complicated to say. Check the index page for some information and resources, also, you might want to check the links page. Basically, one of the most useful and brief resources is the Lucidity institute's official lucid dreaming FAQ. Even more basically, what you might wanna do is improving your dream recall (getting a dream journal should help with that), doing reality checks (to find out if you are not dreaming now, as strange as it sounds) and going to sleep everynight with the intention to remember your dreams and to remember that your are dreaming while you are still in the process. That's just one way (of the few), though, but probably the most popular one.

What is the Lucidity Institute doing anyway?

This is just a personal opinion post and it is not related with any new resources yet. In any case, I decided to go on with this. It is however open to discussion. Please take in consideratoin that you do not have to read this.

So, you may know about the REM dreamers (devices that are supposed to help you have lucid dreams) and all that kind of tools by the Lucidity Institute. According to my latest knowledge they sell these for high prices (up to a few hundred US dollars a piece) because, according to an unsourced quote of LaBerge, "the money goes into research". And so I would be expecting to get some new results from the institute. What have they found out? What's new with lucid dreaming? What kind of research are they doing? What's up with it?

However, as I check the official news page of the Lucidity Institute I notice that there is some news appearing approximately twice a year. And these are mostly just advertisements about their camp or similar kinds of information.

Now, if I understand the situation correctly, there are quite some people making a living of exploring lucidity. That alone makes them responsible for supplying results. Furthermore, if they are selling something that is overpriced and saying that by buying it, people are supporting research, so that makes them even more responsible for results. But if so, I wonder why the results are not here yet. If there is not much news, okay, let it be, but at least let people know what is going on. That is still better than doing "research" and saying nothing.

Infinity - a new peace of software to achieve lucid dreaming

Infinity software

Infinity is this new kind of software where you have a course to follow and then you will train yourself to have lucid dreams whenever you like. Again, I found this on ld4all forums.

You should say thanks to BenDrummin58 who took the time and made the software himself.

It would probably be better if you got the software from the original topic on the forum. But as this is a resources site after all and as the software is free, I'll carry on and give you a direct link to the software. It's just a pre-release, though, but it has probably all the neceserry features.

A new technique: Writing it out

That's not the official name, it's just what has come to my mind. KragonV has introduced this to the people on LD4ALL forums. He says it works all the time to him.
He has also kind of asked people to let him know if it works out for them too so you may be doing it, I guess. If it works out and if he takes donations, go ahead. ;)

Anyway, here is what he has basically written:
  1. Get a pencil and a piece of paper.

  2. Write "I will have a lucid dream tonight" 50 times.
  3. Go to sleep. Chances are, you are going to have a lucid dream that night.

It's pretty simple but if it works out for you, well, Bob's your uncle. ;)

Another Interview

Oh, back on the LD4all forums I found Pantalimon posting about his interview about lucid dreaming on the One tribe radio show. Basically, it doesn't say anything new there. But for a good resumé, it's still a good listen.

So, if you are still interested in lucid dreaming, you might still wanna listen to the show.

Chaining - sounds like a cool technique

I've come accross a new technique to attain lucidity on the LD4all forums which was reported by dunlar.

Here is how he pretty much writes about it (I've made a resumé):
Unlike with the other techniques, you go to bed not even worrying about having a lucid dream. Worry of not moving when you wake up. Absolutely not moving.

From this point, you should be able to get into a lucid dream without much trouble.
Maybe you would want to repeat that you are dreaming too.

It should take no more than a couple minutes to fall asleep if you don't move. Even more. When you wake up you can repeat this technique and get another lucid dream.

So, in all, he sums it up:

1) Have a dream.

2) Wake up and don't move.

3) Have a lucid dream. Improvise!

4) Go back to step 2.

Sounds neat indeed. Gotta try this one.

Dream Awake - how dreams are prepared

I have spotted a rather weird short video which was featured on Youtube.

It was featured, nontheless, so there must be something to it.

The movie is called DreamAwake and you can see it on youtube.

Lucid - another short movie

I've come across another lucid dreaming movie hosted on youtube. It's called Lucid and can also be found on Youtube. It's something about the possible bad side of lucid dreams. Might be an interesting watch. If you have some spare time - just do it. ;)

A Sunday Times article on Lucid Dreaming

The Sunday Times seems to have written an article on lucid dreaming. The article features some explanations of what lucid dreaming is all about and some information about Stephen LaBerge (the head of the Lucidity Institute).

So far, I was able to find a scanned version of the article. Again, this time the credits go to Syphex from LD4all forums.

Life Surreal - an amateur lucid dreaming related movie

I've found this quite a while ago on Youtube and now it just felt like posting this hence it might be an interesting movie.

It's called Life Surreal, is made by the Angry Bunny pictures and you can watch all the parts for free. The film is split into six parts which you can easily find there, but I actually took the time and put the links to the parts here.

So, get the Life Surreal movie here:
  1. Part One

  2. Part Two

  3. Part Three

  4. Part Four

  5. Part Five

  6. Part Six

There are more similar Lucid Dreaming related movies available so you might just wanna do some search. Or later perhaps I'll put more links to these.

Lucid dreaming and meditation

That's what helps. While meditation is not mandatory to lucid dreaming, there seems to be an evident corelation between meditation and lucid dreams (in other words, it helps). Of course, I won't source the statements but that's what people say.
Myself, too, sometime I was just randomly reading lucid dreaming related forums and some guy told about how he does meditation and how it helps him to control his dreams a lot more efficiently. I then realized how little I knew about meditation so searched for meditation related stuff. By chance I've come up with one beginning meditation related podcast. Not all the episodes are that good but some of them are quite okay. Anyway, you can listen to the first episode of the podcast and see how it goes. Since then I have started trying meditation, a few minutes a day maybe (if I have time and want to). But with the laziness and reluctancy like mine it hasn't gone far yet (it's just been like a week, on the other hand). Anyway, you can try it and see if it helps with your lucid dreaming. Or maybe beeing a better person. Just go and see. :)

Lucid dreaming does not exist?

That's an opinion I have read. Firstly, take a neutral point of view and say I'm looking for information on the internet. What comes up searching lucid dreaming is this astral projection and remote viewing related stuff that does not give much confidence in it, yet, seems to be relevant to lucid dreaming.
Later on, let's see what some encyclopedias say. They describe lucid dreaming and it seems quite real, but these usually have the article with unsourced statements mark.

In one of his dialogues LaBerge has talked about lucid dreaming and about how he has proven it to be real (I will maybe put up that file if things turn out well). It is related with eye movements accordingly in the directions in which they do move in the lucid dream. Wow, a proof. But wait, I can't see that. I have seen talking about it. But where is it? Can I see the official experiment, please? Seems not. The proves do not seem that impressing as I don't really know if they are real...

Let's take a lucid dreamer's (hey, that could be me) perspective now. I have had some lucid dreams (nothing too fancy, but still). I should know if they exist. And I am almost sure they do. That should be evident to me. But will other people believe by just what I'm saying? Okay, many people say to have lucid dreams. But many people also say to have seen many stuff, like UFO, smurfs, witches, intelligent chickens, three-eyed people, Tom Thumb etc. That does not prove them, though.
Finally, even if I tell you there are lucid dreams and even if you lucid dream yourself, here is a new approach to it:

There is no such thing as lucid dreams, specifically, no such thing as dream control. We just dream we do understand that we are dreaming and we just dream we can control the dream whereas the dream is still actually only jerking around with us.

How would it matter from a lucid dream if we can still do anything we want or think we want? Don't ask me. But it would. Maybe...

LaBerge's interview

Last year on Coast to Coast radio there was an interview with one of the world's most renowned authorities about lucid dreaming, Stephen Laberge. He actually is the head of the Lucidity Institute and has done a lot of research. Now, actually there were two interviews like that and I had them both but somehow I've lost the first one and it is difficult to find to download (if it's online at all) so only this new one is available now. You may not worry that much, as the interviews are alike, they talk about almost the same stuff. So, anyway, grab this few hours long interview here (thanks to Tomas from the ld4all.com forums for having put it there)...
Let's get things started here. It's nothing big here so far, but if you want to find out more about lucid dreaming, you just have to listen to this ludic dreaming podcast (in other words, it's an mp3 file that you can listen to). That's one of the major things that got me into this whole stuff. Just about 10 minutes but that's quite interesting to listen to, plus, even for experienced dreamers one technique is described that I have never heard of elsewhere.

Anyway, just listen to it. ;)

First Run

Welcome to the website.
This is just the first post and nothing important is going to happen here. Just look around the website. Check the sections and read stuff, you can even test things out.
Later I would be adding more content to it so that we will be able to enjoy the ride more. Cheers for now.
