Lucid Dreaming FAQ

What is lucid dreaming?

Dreaming and knowing it, therefore, getting control over the dream.

Possible?

Sure thing. Personally tried, scientifically proven.

Why to lucid dream?

Several possible reasons. Like for fun, for personal development, etc.

When to lucid dream?

Anytime you sleep and dream. The timetable is quite flexible.

Where do I start?

That's kinda complicated to say. Check the index page for some information and resources, also, you might want to check the links page. Basically, one of the most useful and brief resources is the Lucidity institute's official lucid dreaming FAQ. Even more basically, what you might wanna do is improving your dream recall (getting a dream journal should help with that), doing reality checks (to find out if you are not dreaming now, as strange as it sounds) and going to sleep everynight with the intention to remember your dreams and to remember that your are dreaming while you are still in the process. That's just one way (of the few), though, but probably the most popular one.

What is the Lucidity Institute doing anyway?

This is just a personal opinion post and it is not related with any new resources yet. In any case, I decided to go on with this. It is however open to discussion. Please take in consideratoin that you do not have to read this.

So, you may know about the REM dreamers (devices that are supposed to help you have lucid dreams) and all that kind of tools by the Lucidity Institute. According to my latest knowledge they sell these for high prices (up to a few hundred US dollars a piece) because, according to an unsourced quote of LaBerge, "the money goes into research". And so I would be expecting to get some new results from the institute. What have they found out? What's new with lucid dreaming? What kind of research are they doing? What's up with it?

However, as I check the official news page of the Lucidity Institute I notice that there is some news appearing approximately twice a year. And these are mostly just advertisements about their camp or similar kinds of information.

Now, if I understand the situation correctly, there are quite some people making a living of exploring lucidity. That alone makes them responsible for supplying results. Furthermore, if they are selling something that is overpriced and saying that by buying it, people are supporting research, so that makes them even more responsible for results. But if so, I wonder why the results are not here yet. If there is not much news, okay, let it be, but at least let people know what is going on. That is still better than doing "research" and saying nothing.

Infinity - a new peace of software to achieve lucid dreaming

Infinity software

Infinity is this new kind of software where you have a course to follow and then you will train yourself to have lucid dreams whenever you like. Again, I found this on ld4all forums.

You should say thanks to BenDrummin58 who took the time and made the software himself.

It would probably be better if you got the software from the original topic on the forum. But as this is a resources site after all and as the software is free, I'll carry on and give you a direct link to the software. It's just a pre-release, though, but it has probably all the neceserry features.

A new technique: Writing it out

That's not the official name, it's just what has come to my mind. KragonV has introduced this to the people on LD4ALL forums. He says it works all the time to him.
He has also kind of asked people to let him know if it works out for them too so you may be doing it, I guess. If it works out and if he takes donations, go ahead. ;)

Anyway, here is what he has basically written:
  1. Get a pencil and a piece of paper.

  2. Write "I will have a lucid dream tonight" 50 times.
  3. Go to sleep. Chances are, you are going to have a lucid dream that night.

It's pretty simple but if it works out for you, well, Bob's your uncle. ;)

Another Interview

Oh, back on the LD4all forums I found Pantalimon posting about his interview about lucid dreaming on the One tribe radio show. Basically, it doesn't say anything new there. But for a good resumé, it's still a good listen.

So, if you are still interested in lucid dreaming, you might still wanna listen to the show.

Chaining - sounds like a cool technique

I've come accross a new technique to attain lucidity on the LD4all forums which was reported by dunlar.

Here is how he pretty much writes about it (I've made a resumé):
Unlike with the other techniques, you go to bed not even worrying about having a lucid dream. Worry of not moving when you wake up. Absolutely not moving.

From this point, you should be able to get into a lucid dream without much trouble.
Maybe you would want to repeat that you are dreaming too.

It should take no more than a couple minutes to fall asleep if you don't move. Even more. When you wake up you can repeat this technique and get another lucid dream.

So, in all, he sums it up:

1) Have a dream.

2) Wake up and don't move.

3) Have a lucid dream. Improvise!

4) Go back to step 2.

Sounds neat indeed. Gotta try this one.

Dream Awake - how dreams are prepared

I have spotted a rather weird short video which was featured on Youtube.

It was featured, nontheless, so there must be something to it.

The movie is called DreamAwake and you can see it on youtube.
